What is Sukanya Samriddhi Yojana (SSY)?

Sukanya Samriddhi Yojana is a government-backed savings scheme launched under the "Beti Bachao Beti Padhao" initiative, specifically for the educational and marriage expenses of girl children in India. Accounts can be opened by parents/guardians for girls under the age of 10. It features tax benefits under Section 80C and offers attractive interest rates (currently 8.2% p.a.).

SSY Interest Compounding Policy

Under the policy rules, parents deposit a fixed sum yearly for 15 years. After 15 years, no deposits are allowed, but the account continues to earn interest on the accumulated balance for an additional 6 years until it matures after 21 years from the date of opening.
